Northern Ireland

PCS has now established an office in Belfast at 40 Wellington Park, courtesy of our sister union NIPSA.

The office set up includes access to the PCS intranet which allows our reps to access all the latest PCS information.

PCS also has access to meeting rooms of various sizes which are also available to PCS branches. To book a room all branches have to do is contact one of the committe officers.

The office is not currently staffed but messages are picked up on a regular basis.

Branch and Reps Consultation on Future Priorities

The PCS Regional Committee for Ireland (RCI) is inviting branches and reps in Northern Ireland to feed in views to help us shape our future work programme. At its Annual General Meeting in Belfast on 16th June, the Committee agreed to consult branches on what priorities should feature in an annual plan of work.

RCI Chair, Barney Lawn said, “We face challenging times ahead of us as the Government seems intent on punishing innocent public sector workers for the calamitous recklessness of the bankers. We need to be prepared, focused and united for the battles ahead and we are putting a plan together to give us clear direction, hopefully, with the full involvement of all our branches in Northern Ireland.”

The deadline for submissions is Friday 20th August 2010. Please send your thoughts and ideas to Fiona Low fional@pcs.org.uk

We recommend that your ideas should relate to the functions of the RCI – the following suggested headings may assist:

• Education (training for Reps) and workplace learning
• Organising
• Equality
• Health and Safety
• Campaigning and Influencing Government
• Communications and Media

The submissions will be considered by the RCI officers who will put together a draft plan for the endorsement of the Committee at its next meeting on 29th September.

Irish Congress of Trade Unions Northern Ireland Committee bi-annual delegate conference

The above conference took place on 27 and 28 April in Derry.

PCS had a significant presence at conference and made a number of positive contributions throughout the event.

Regional committee for Ireland

The regional committee for Ireland (RCI) is committed to campaining and delivering for PCS members in Ireland.

The committee is most effective when all our branches take part in decision making and campaigning.

If your branch is not currently involved, see the newsletter for branches currently active, then ask your branch officers to contact one of the RCI officers direct.

From parliamentary campaigning to industrial action, the regional committee for Ireland has been at the forefront of protecting members jobs, terms and conditions.

The committee now needs your support and involvement.

Send us an email or give us a call if you are interested in becoming involved or you have a skill that could be used to benefit PCS members.
