"In this section you will find details of the NOMS initiative aimed at transforming the way NOMS works in prisons and HQ, and re-structuring pay and grading structures and working practices.

This initiative, announced by the Justice secretary in April 2009, is designed to follow up on the aborted Workforce Modernisation Programme which ended in failure shortly before the announcement.

The new initiative includes a number of both threats and opportunities for PCS members but re-inforces, overall, the need for the Union to be highly organised in the workplace and have an active and interested membership eager and willing to participate in the affairs of their Union.

Only in this way can we obtain the collective strength to ensure effective negotiation and get the best outcome for members."
