To make sure we are reaching people who will benefit most from learning opportunities the union needs your help to collect information on the learning activity in your workplace. The union needs this information so we can show our funding body, unionlearn (TUC), that we are effectively using the resources they provide us with. If we don’t provide them with the information, it will negatively impact on our ability to attract future funding.
Your Regional Learning Organiser will use the information to show employers the good work ULRs across the country are doing. They also use the information for negotiating on learning issues and to reinforce other union work such as organising (recruiting new members), bargaining and to raise the profile of learning and trade unionism more generally.
ULRs promote and deliver all kinds of learning which can be recorded on the ‘ULR Activity Form’ attached to this page. On this form you can record formal structured learning such as Skills for Life courses and qualifications, ICT and vocational qualifications.
You can also report on ‘other learning opportunities’ such as informal learning, apprenticeships, events you have held and how many people came, any information advice or guidance you have given. If learning activity in your workplace is not yet developed you can use the welcome page to let your regional Learning Organiser know about any support you may need or just tell us what the situation is.
For every learning action you record on this form we need equality and diversity information to match. We need to make sure we are reaching people who may not have had access to learning opportunities in the past. So if you have told us that you have given information advice and guidance to someone, ask them to fill in the E&D form attached (even if they just say ‘undeclared’) and record this in the relevant section on the ULR Activity Form.
We’ve produced a few other forms to try to make your job easier:
The Learner Record: this is where you can keep all your information on a learner, what learning they have done, what qualifications they have achieved, which college or provider and a notes section.
There are two other versions of this form which you can use at events or on courses. You can just hand out the form to participants and they can fill it in themselves.
The Learner Interview Form is to record your first contact with a potential learner, their goals and ambitions, what specific learning they want to do and when they hope to achieve it.
To help you get started in your role as a new ULR there is a Workplace Questionnaire and a Workplace Learner Survey.
