Your role in the scheme

Hopefully this guide will help you to understand how the PCS Employment Law Scheme works and what steps are required to ensure advice can be obtained to help progress relevant cases.

As a PCS representative you can help to make the scheme run effectively by:

  • liaising with your officials at PCS HQ or regional centre about the management of individual cases
  • ensuring that, where time permits, you seek advice before any application to a civil service appeals board or employment tribunal is made
  • completing the PC1 form when making any request to bargaining unit officials for advice
  • not leaving everything to the last minute - it is extremely difficult to get effective advice, or indeed to agree representation, when the case is well down the road of ET procedures and a hearing date is close.

Dissemination of advice bulletins

The legal and personal case department publishes a regular bulletin - Dissemination of Advice - that gives details of the legal advice received on real cases.

This is done on an anonymous basis. These bulletins are a useful resource when dealing with cases which may have a legal aspect.
