All PCS members and their partners have access to the union's free personal injury service, provided the accident or injury has occurred in the UK or within UK jurisdiction. The scheme also extends to other family members where the accident or injury has occurred outside of work or the family member is a victim of medical negligence.

Types of claims handled:

  • Road traffic accidents
  • Slips and trips
  • Occupational disease (stress, RSI, asbestos)
  • Clinical negligence
  • Assaults

Time limits

Personal injury claims have a time limit of 3 years from the date of the accident or injury (but diseases like asbestosis can often be longer). The time limit for claims involving ships or aircraft, or CICA claims, is 2 years. So court proceedings must be started within that time.

Supporting members' claims

Last year the PCS personal injury compensation claim scheme recovered more than £4.7 million in compensation for members and their partners or dependent children.

Whether they received a few hundred pounds or several thousand pounds in compensation those PCS members discovered the advantages of seeking help under the auspices of our scheme.

The scheme operates at the discretion of the NEC.

In order to qualify under the scheme it is normally necessary to have been a member at the time of the accident or injury arising and to be in current membership or associate membership of PCS.
