The government has been promoting the importance of the health and well-being of workers in the public and private sectors for several years.
PCS supports these initiatives but believes that the Government as an employer is not effectively using the excellent good practice guidance that already exists to make sure that positive approaches to well-being are applied to its own workers.
We believe that the government’s approach to promoting health in its workforce should be underpinned by the findings of the Whitehall ll study and linked to other workplace factors such as job security and job design.
Our aim is to work at all levels to move management away from short-term, target-driven ways of tackling ill-health towards a more positive agenda that actively protects and promotes the health and well-being of members.
