Jobs not overtime: ballot result

Members have today voted overwhelmingly to take part in action short of strike action across HMRC. We thank all members for taking part in the ballot. We continue to seek assurances from the department that the use of routine overtime will cease forthwith, and that HMRC use any monies currently being used to fund overtime to fund permanent jobs in HMRC.

In the meantime, and in the absence of these assurances, preparations will now be put in place to begin a continuous ban on overtime. It is expected that an overtime ban will begin on Monday, 6 July. Further briefings will be issued at the start of next week giving confirmation of arrangements.

Jobs not overtime

HMRC is using overtime to mask the true impact of job cuts. In a climate of job cuts and office closures the continued use of routine overtime is untenable and unacceptable.

Action

  • Support the ban on overtime from 6 July
  • Attend local meetings that are taking place on pay
  • Vote to reject the pay offer and to take part in further action to improve the offer
