Parliamentary motion
Marlyn Glen, member of the PCS Scottish parliamentary group, has lodged the following motion at the Scottish Parliament:
S3M-02795 : “That the Parliament expresses its solidarity with the members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) in Scottish and UK government departments in their national industrial action over a 2% pay cap: notes that, amid spiralling food, fuel and transport prices, financial insecurity and Retail Price Index and Consumer Price Index inflation rates at 5% and 5.2% respectively, low-paid public sector workers should not be condemned to below inflation effective pay cuts; commends Scotland’s civil servants for the sterling work that they do in providing vital services to the public, and urges Scottish and UK ministers to review pay policies that are penalising their own workforces at this time of unprecedented and significant developments in the economic climate.”
We would urge you, and your members, to write to your local MSPs urging their support for motion S3M-02795.
Sandra White MSP (Glasgow) (SNP)
"I have signed the Scottish Parliament motion S3M-02795: Support the PCS pay strike on 10 November 2008. I will however be unable to make it to a picket line on Monday as I will be in Palestine. Please put forward my apologies."

" At a time of economic recession it is all the more important that government in Scotland as well as at Westminster uses all available levers to support the economy. This is a time when maintaining and improving public sector pay can really help support our economy in a counter-cyclical way. It is also a time when workers and their families in Scotland will be more than ever reliant on the quality of our public services. And no-one should forget that the quality and effectiveness of public service in Scotland is above all dependant on the well being, morale and motivation of the dedicated workers. UCU Scotland and our members are with you in your just cause today."
