PCS reports massive response to strike call throughout Scotland

8 March 2010

There has been a massive response to the PCS call for 48 hours of strike action today and tomorrow.

Reports this morning make it clear that over 90% of Scotland's civil servants are on strike today following the establishment of picket lines at every government office in Scotland from 7 o'clock this morning.

Lynn Henderson, PCS Scottish Secretary, commented "Our members have clearly shown from their response today their determination to fight to stop the Westminster government from ripping up their contracts and robbing them of up to a third of their redundancy entitlement.

These cuts pave the way for jobs to go on the cheap and for mass privatisation of civil and public services.

The message that members across Scotland have sent today to the Cabinet Office is that we will not stand by while city fat cats are paid millions in bonuses while ordinary workers pay the price.”
