Associate and retired members in the south west

The PCS associate and retired members association (ARM's) provides services and information for members of the union who have retired or moved on to other jobs where PCS does not operate.

The association ensures the voice of retired members is heard throughout the union and in the wider political arena and pensioner movement.

ARM's south west region committee 2008/2009

The region is funded by PCS through the ARM's national committee and has been privileged to welcome visits from national and regional PCS officers including our national president, Janice Godrich.

The region also enjoys the support of PCS+ with Liverpool Victoria Financial Services sponsoring the cost of our meeting room hire and also sponsoring refreshments on several occasions.

The region is represented at the Pensioner's Parliament which takes place in Blackpool each May.

The south west region also takes an active part in Wessex Pensioners Convention and South Central and West Pensioners Convention and expects to play an active role in re-establishing a group of the National Pensioners Convention in Devon and Cornwall in the near future.

The region sends delegates to the annual South West TUC Pensioners Conference which is held in June of each year and is also represented at annual meetings of ARM's Regional Secretaries in December and ARM's Forum meetings in May.

The Region continues to have a co-opted seat on the PCS south west regional committee which meets in Exeter quarterly.

Local groups within the region have not been active recently but we hope this may change.

A 'mail shot' of members in the BH Postcode area proved successful and may well be repeated in other areas.

What the committee is involved in

The Regional Committee continues to take an active interest in:

  • PCS Make Your Vote Count Campaign
  • PCS Job, Services and Pensions Campaign
  • Keep Our Kids Safe Campaign
  • Ability to pay council tax
  • Campaign regarding the potential fraud due to national insurance numbers being shown on bank statements of state pensioners and those receiving state benefits

Members of the Regional Committee are happy to receive invitations to speak at Branch meetings and to answer any questions. Please contact the ARM's Regional Secretary in the first instance.
