Machinery of Government changes

The PCS LSC Group Executive Committee will be hosting a Special Consultative Conference to consider how best to deal with any threats resulting from MOG changes.

The conference will consider and debate a Motion moved by the Executive Committee which will be provided to Branches in good time to enable mandating of delegates.
The current inadequate consultation on the machinery of government changes has led to this conference being necessary. PCS’ demands for assurances on job security have not been met, and there are no guarantees on future terms and conditions.

The outcome of the MOG consultation will directly impact on the future and job security of all LSC staff. It is crucial that PCS is able to influence that outcome. Without the help of members that will not be possible.

Seminar to discuss new challenges and solutions on equal pay:

The seminars are organised as part of the Close the Pay Gap Campaign, which is a partnership between the Wales TUC, EHRC and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Seminars will take place in all parts of Wales on the following dates:

North and Mid Wales (LLandudno) - 21st January

South West Wales (Camarthen) - 29th January

South East Wales (Cardiff) - 5th February

A one day seminar on equal pay. As well as provide you with an update on recent legislation the seminar will provide practical examples of how other organisations have overcome the barriers to achieving equal pay for women and men. We shall facilitate you in developing a programme of action that is specific to your workplace with access to equality experts who can support you.

Protest against the invasion of Gaza

Wales TUC LGBT Conference 2009

The first annual Wales LGBT conference, to coincide with LGBT History Month. Delegates can be LGBT people or people interested in discussing issues pertaining to LGBT people.

The conference will start with registration and lunch from 12.00 noon Friday 27th February. There will be an evening social event and photography exhibition during the evening of the 27th and conference will resume from 9.00 on the 28th February, finishing at 12.15 pm. Delegates are welcome to attend some or all of conference.

Reps and members are encouraged to attend, there is no limit on the number of delegates. Organisations are also invited to submit one motion to the conference. There will be an opportunity for motions from this event to be considered b the General Council for adoption onto the 2009 Wales TUC Conference agenda.

Wales TUC Youth weekend school for new / potential activists

Wales TUC is holding its first ever weekend school for new or potential activists. This event is designed to develop the confidence, knowledge and basic skills of young members and inspire them to be active within their own trade union and the wider union movement.

The course is aimed at experienced PCS union representatives undertaking personal casework.

One of the areas that will be covered is presenting a case at tribunal and cross-examination techniques.

Greening the Workplace - Cardiff

This three-day course was developed by Nigel Morter of London Metropolitan University with support from Envirowise, the Carbon Trust and TUSDAC. It is applicable to all trade unions and contains four modules and a review. Each module consists of short presentations on different topics by the course tutor (the trainer) and group work on these topics by the students (trainees), followed by report-back / discussion sessions involving all participants.

The purpose of this course is to provide you with a foundation in environmental issues, their impact on the workplace and the implications for trade unions and their members. The course further aims tools to enable you to play an active and informed part in promoting environmentalism in your workplace, union and beyond.
