Make Your Vote Count in Wales

The 'Make Your Vote Count' (MYVC) campaign has been run by PCS in elections since 2007 and provides a means whereby our members can exert pressure on candidates seeking political office in relation to the union's key concerns, such as jobs, pay, pensions and privatisation, as well as playing a part in our campaign against the far right.

In the 2011 Assembly elections, we received responses from 74 candidates to our five pledges, covering all main political parties, and the overwhelming majority of these were supportive of PCS' standpoint. We also held successful 'candidate question time' events - in most cases, jointly with other unions and campaign coalitions - in Ceredigion, Wrexham, Newport and Cardiff.

Make Your Vote Count 2012

On May 3rd 2012, there will be elections for twenty-one of the twenty-two local authorities within Wales (the exception being Anglesey/Ynys Môn, where the elections have been deferred until 2013).

We will be putting four pledges to the candidates, which have been tailored to the specific circumstances of Wales.

As well as allowing us to put the union's concerns on the political agenda within Wales, the elections will also give PCS members an opportunity to express their opposition to the UK government's massive programme of public sector cuts.

By encouraging every member of PCS, as well as our friends and families, to register to vote and to take part - we can maximise our union’s influence, help to elect politicians who value and support public services, and stop the growth in electoral support for the BNP and other far-right parties.
