Delegates from branches across Wales attended the AGM of the Wales Committee, held in the Millennium Stadium Cardiff on 9 June 2009.

Katrine Williams was re-elected as Wales Committee Chair. Chris Hall, Marianne Owens and Jimmy Gill were elected as Vice Chairs (full list of elected members below).

Chair: Katrine Williams

Vice Chairs: Jimmy Gill, Chris Hall, Marianne Owens

Committee: Dave Bartlett, Morwenna Bell, Nia Blackwell, Gez Kirby, Sonia Lowe, Alwyn Mason, Anne-Louise McKeon-Williams, Dianne Moss, Ben Rapier, Ceri Reeves, Steve Ryan, Jan Warner, Dave Warren, John Waters, Sue Watkins, Fiona Whyte.

Keynote speaker, general secretary Mark Serwotka, thanked branch delegates for their contributions to the continuing success of PCS.

Mark spoke of troubled waters ahead as a result of the cuts in public services caused by the recession. He condemned the Government for their failure to implement the pay deal and for plans, shortly to be published, to drastically reduce the benefits in the Civil Service Compensation Scheme.

The NEC would be consulting members about campaigning priorities over the summer months. The consultation would also seek members’ views on the possibility of PCS standing ‘pro public services’ candidates in future elections.

Mark congratulated all those elected to national PCS positions. He made a special presentation to Margaret Davies, PCS rep in the Merthyr HMRC office.

Margaret was named as the WTUC Rep of the year for 2009, following her leadership of the successful campaign to keep open her office.

Wales TUC General Secretary, Martin Mansfield, addressed the AGM. He described the WTUC’s positive engagement with the Welsh Assembly Government to tackle the recession.

He spoke of his ambition for unions in Wales to have a greater campaigning focus and to better engage with the public. He praised PCS Wales for ‘punching above our weight’ on the WTUC.

Leanne Wood AM, Chair of the PCS Assembly Group, gave her annual report. The Group have been particularly active in supporting PCS campaigns on jobs, pay – including regional pay and equal pay, and our fight against outsourcing and privatisation.

Jeff Evans gave a report of the PCS Wales Committee’s work over the past 12 months. A copy of the power point presentation is available from the office on request.
