PCS Wales is calling on the UK Government to suspend its planned HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs) office closure programme which threatens 10 offices in Wales employing 450 staff. A decision on the fate of the offices is expected next week.

Government plans to privatise the Royal Mint have been rejected by the Public & Commercial Services union (PCS), which represents staff at the Llantrisant site. The Chancellor's Pre-Budget Statement yesterday included a commitment to "explore the potential benefits of alternative future models for the Royal Mint" - a thinly-veiled reference to some form of privatisation, which has been actively considered by the Government in the past.19 Nov 2008
The PCS, is seeking assurances from the Treasury that future of the Merthyr Tydfil based HMRC (Customs and Revenue) office is secure. HMRC have embarked on a UK wide office closure programme and a decision on the Merthyr office, which employs 70 staff, is imminent.11 Nov 2008
