Welsh Assembly Government and Assembly Commission Group

These pages are a resource for PCS members in the Welsh Assembly Government and Assembly Commission group.

The group was restructured in 2007 to take account of mergers and the opening of new offices in Merthyr, Aberystwyth and Llandudno.

The group is the umbrella body for 6 branches. Thes branches represent the geographic areas of North Wales, Mid Wales, South West Wales, South East Wales and Cardiff, as well as the Assembly Commission branch.

The group takes the lead on developing strategies and campaigns to improve pay, terms and conditions and to ensure job security.

The group consists of elected officers and branch representatives. The GEC meets 4 times a year and officers of the group meet up to 12 times a year. The group is responsible for the development of an annual plan, setting out key priorities and targets for branches to deliver on behalf of our members.

Communication with members is one of our highest priorities and we believe that the development of this web site as a medium for communicating our message to members across the group is a key development.

We hope that members will increasingly use, contribute to and enjoy this site and use it as an important resource. If you have any views on the web site or suggestions about how we can improve it please contact us.

NO to victimisation of union reps!

On 13 July 2011, Welsh Government management suspended a leading PCS union rep, citing unfounded allegations that he’d leaked documents relating to potential office closures. The suspension remains in place, even though management now accept that no internal document has been leaked to the press.

This is an unacceptable way to treat someone who was simply carrying out his trade union duties in accordance with normal convention, seeking to protect the jobs of his members and the services they provide.

Jane Hutt’s statement this week makes a welcome commitment to keeping jobs in the locations about which PCS has had concerns and has campaigned – but no rep should pay for this by being suspended. If we allow one rep to be victimised, any rep or other member of staff could be next.

PCS is calling on management to rescind the suspension and ensure that our rep is able to return to work without delay. Until that happens, we are boycotting any ‘partnership’ meetings with management. Please be ready to support any protest events that the union may call in support of our efforts, if the suspension is not lifted.
