PCS at Sports - Land Registry Campaigning Day

The York Branch held a PCS and a Fair Trade stall at this annual event, which was held this year at the York University Sports Campus on Friday 12th September.

Sports Day 2 Our skills at putting up two gazebos were put to the test, but with much hands-on assistance from everyone, we got everything sorted and the comments we received from visitors were that the stalls looked very professional and well organised.

Despite the weather many people visited the stalls. The PCS stall provided leaflets, ‘freebies’, and a Pink Raffle in aid of Breast Cancer Care, which became the Pink Tombola at this event.   People were very generous and we sold lots of tickets. Special thanks must go to the very determined, if rather unlucky ladies from the Croydon office who kept trying and trying to win.

As there were prizes left over, Louise Woodward continued the Pink Tombola at the Hull Office the following week and in total an amazing £310 was raised. Half will go to Breast Cancer Care and half to the LR Hardship Fund.    Many thanks go to Louise for organising all of this.

Sports Day 1 The Branch got the idea of running a Fair Trade stall as York is a Fair Trade City and what a better opportunity to promote fair trade than sports day which attracts up to 1,000 visitors.    The stall consisted of a fair trade raffle, prizes being fair trade wine, beer, flowers, a book, chocolates etc. Congratulations to all the winners.

Cakes, flapjacks, banana bread, brownies etc were sold at 50p a slice/piece all made from fair-trade ingredients. These went down very well and visitors were also able to take away the recipes. Many thanks go to members and BEC reps at the York Office who provided the cakes.
Literature and leaflets about fair trade were also available plus free samples of fair trade chocolate.

The Fair -Trade stall raised £106 – proceeds will be shared between the Fair Trade Organisation and the LR Hardship Fund. We were also delighted that a representative from the York Fair Trade Organisation was able to help out on the stall.

The aim of all of this was to raise the profile of PCS and Fair Trade. We believe that the efforts put in to organising all of the above paid off and it was so good to see so many visitors plus some old faces!

PCS also sponsored the event by purchasing the PA System which LR Sports and Social were very grateful for.

Thanks go to everyone who helped organise the event; the Group and PCS for their donations towards the raffle/tombola prizes, etc; and to all the visitors who supported us.
