Additional staff in Pension Credit

PCS has been arguing strongly for additional staff in many parts of Operations in the Department to address backlogs of work and the resultant stress for our members.

Following the concerns PCS has raised the DWP has announced that it will recruit an additional 130 Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) staff to deal with the outstanding work in Pension Credit with staff being brought into sites in Burnley, Seaham, Swansea and Warrington for 9 months.

Permanent staff not short-term solutions

PCS welcomes this additional recruitment but believes that these staff should be brought into the department on a permanent basis in order to provide long term support for our existing members and to give these new staff a long-term future. PCS continues to argue against the wasteful cycle of recruiting and training fixed term staff who feel insecure and leave if they can find other jobs, and the department losing the valuable experience they have gained to then need to recruit new staff at a later date who need to be trained from scratch again.

PCS will continue to argue for further staff in all our hard pressed operational areas and will continue to campaign for permanent recruitment.
