The DWP Group are asking all branches to do everything they can to build for a PCS presence at the TUC march on 12 May.
The DWP Group Executive Committee (GEC) are asking all DWP branches to do everything you can to build for the maximum attendance of PCS members, family, friends and supporters to join thousands of others from across the trade union movement on the TUC’s march in London on 12 May to call for a fully-funded, above inflation pay rise for all civil servants
A DWP All Members briefing is being issued about the march. Please distribute it to your members.
How to get there
Some help with transport is being organised by our PCS regional centres across the UK. Contact your nearest regional centre at https://www.pcs.org.uk/pcs-where-i-work to find out about help getting to London.
The march will assemble at Victoria Embankment between Hungerford Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge from 11am. It will move off at noon and march to Hyde Park. The rally will take place in Hyde Park, finishing at 4pm.
PCS is demanding:
- A fully-funded 5% pay rise
- Living Wage of £10 an hour
- Pay equality across the civil service
- A common pay and grading structure
Let’s get more members involved
The DWP Group Executive Committee want to increase participation across the union and get more members involved in doing the little things to support the pay campaign and help build the union. We want thousands more members to get involved. Please make sure that you talk to members who go on the march about becoming a union advocate. National Branch Briefing BB/36/18 explains about the union’s national initiative to encourage more members to become Advocates. You can also find out more about union advocates at union advocates.
You can get members involved by
- Use our pay calculator – it takes just 3 minutes – and send your results to Cabinet Office minister David Lidington
- Show a non-member the pay calculator and ask them to join PCS and support our pay claim
- Talk to members face-to-face in your branch
- Sign pay petition to David Lidington
Join in the Webinair
Please also tell your members that PCS will be offering members an opportunity to join a webinar on 14 April for members who want to get more involved in the pay campaign specifically and to build for the Big Petition activity on 30 April.
Build for the next PCS Payday event
You can also keep up the pressure on the government by building for the next PCS Payday event on 30 April. Encourage members, family, friends and colleagues at work to take part in PCS pay activities and protest events on 30 April. 30 April is our Big Pay Petition Day when members will sign large petitions, which can then be used in photo opportunities with the maximum numbers of members taking part.
