Today 1,000s of PCS members in the Driving Standards Agency are on strike to be followed this week in a wave of action by many more in VOA, Land Registry, Home Office and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Many others are balloting for action.
PCS DWP group gives full support to these members and many DWP members have attended picket lines and rallies all over the country today on their way to work and at lunchtimes.
Speaking at a rally in Leeds city centre today DWP Group President Jane Aitchison said:
"22 government departments are in dispute over pay and as inflation soars that number is growing.
The PCS DWP group have already taken 5 days of strike action over pay resulting in the employer coming back to the negotiating table with more money made available.
However with the lowest paid DWP worker on 24p above minimum wage and half earning less than £15,000 a year and having to cope with inflation at 4.6% and rising it is clear we need to break the government’s widely discredited public sector pay policy".
