Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights are human rights.
Why we support international LGBT solidarity
Our union and PCS Proud are committed to promoting equality, human rights and respect for LGBT people here and beyond our borders.
We oppose all forms of bullying, victimisation, harassment and discrimination, including discrimination against lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people in the UK and all around the world.
Our trade union, like our sister unions, the TUC, STUC and LGBT activists and supporters have worked tirelessly to fight discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, although there is still much more to be done. Inequality still exists, and abuse and violence against LGBT people still occurs in our workplaces, on our streets, in their homes and families.
Elsewhere in the world too, lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or trans people are discriminated against in society and at work. In some countries they are criminalised and face violence from authorities and mobs, imprisonment or even the death penalty.
More positively though, in recent years many countries have repealed such laws and some brought about protections in employment, goods and services. In some cases same sex marriage laws or similar legal recognition of same sex relationships have been made.
Campaigning on International LGBT Issues
PCS is committed to fighting for LGBT rights around the world and standing in solidarity with grassroots activists in other countries.
If you are interested in campaigning for LGBT rights here and abroad, and fighting against the discrimination and violence that LGBT people continue to face in their daily lives, join PCS and Proud and help us to fight for a better, safer, more equal future for all.
