Held every February, LGBT+ History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements and contributions of the LGBT+ community around the world.
LGBT+ History Month is also an opportunity to remember the struggles that many in the LGBT+ community have endured and to refocus on the challenges that continue to exist for the global LGBT+ community on a daily basis.
PCS, and Proud, have been long standing supporters of LGBT+ History Month with events held in workplaces and across the regions each year to show our support for LGBT+ members and to stand in solidarity with the LGBT+ community.
Each year LGBT+ History Month is organised around a chosen theme relevant to the LGBT+ community, for 2019 the theme will be “History: Peace, Activism and Reconciliation” coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, often considered the starting point of the modern day LGBT+ rights movement.
Proud encourages all branches to get involved and to engage with members and potential members to promote the work of Proud, and PCS, in tackling LGBT+ and other equality issues and encourage them to get involved themselves.
