PCS AGM and Conference Preparation – Democracy and Policy making

This is a one day course for any PCS representative, to be held on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 at the PCS Eastern Regional Office.

It will be of particular use to experienced reps wishing to take a more active role at conference, any rep considering becoming a conference delegate or reps wanting to gain a better understanding of how PCS develops policy to include an understanding of the role of branch AGMs and PCS Annual Delegate Conference in policy development.

It will also be aimed at inexperienced branch secretaries, reps seeking a better understanding of the role of a branch secretary, and potential trainee delegates.

The course will cover the following:

  • What is an AGM?
  • How do we get more engagement in AGMs?
  • Key dates and deadlines
  • Purpose of conference and what happens there
  • Conference jargon
  • Writing a motion
  • Tips on public speaking
  • Speaking on motions
