PCS London & South East Solidarity Day for Picturehoue Strikers
PCS London & South East Region in coordination with BECTU Picturehouse strikers have organised a solidarity demonstration outside Picturehouse Central on Shaftsbury Avenue from 18:00 on the 10 of October. We encourage branches, activists and members to come and support the protest.
BECTU workers at Picturehouse cinemas are on strike for the London Living Wage and the reinstatement of reps sacked by the employer for trade union organising. The workers are organising a week of walkouts, pickets and demonstrations at the London Film Festival taking place in Leicester Square from the 4 to the 15 of October.
Picturehouse, which owns a number of smaller – formerly independent cinemas – around the country such as the Brixton Ritzy are now owned by Cineworld, a company which registered a profit of £90 million in 2016 while its CEO awarded themselves £2 million, plus bonuses. This is a company which can afford to pay its workers the Living Wage.
