Who we represent
PCS is the largest trade union for Home Office staff, and staff working in its agencies, non-departmental bodies and outsourced contracts. We have a presence at Home Office sites throughout the United Kingdom and abroad with our members involved in case working, visas, immigration, borders, passport, disclosure and barring, and gangmasters licensing work. We represent staff in all grades up to senior civil service.
A force for good
Unions are a force for good in the workplace, in the community and across society as a whole. In the Home Office group we have seen significant successes in campaigning for:
- fair pay and harmonisation of pay structures covering all parts of the Home Office and its agencies;
- demanding fair personnel policies not personal punishment;
- defending civil service jobs and opposing further privatisation while demanding job security for our members already outsourced to the private sector;
- calling for an end to victimisation and bullying of members.
As part of our Fairness at Work campaign we have involved members and will continue to explain to politicians and the media alike the value that all of our members give. We believe in holding those in power to account by encouraging them to scrutinise the work that our members in order to value your contribution.
Our members deliver a first class service, care for the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society and support our communities with the work they do. We believe the Home Office needs a progressive political vision based on fairness for its workforce, fairness to the community we serve and as such we need to be given the proper resources so that member’s can continue to give the excellent service they are so proud to deliver.
Our union's aims
Our priority is to improve the quality of the working lives of our members. We do this by representing members on a range of issues every day of the year and through bargaining and campaigning hard to improve pay, terms and conditions. We also aim to ensure that every member of our union is treated with fairness, dignity and respect at work. In our negotiations with the employer we take an organising approach by seeking members’ views whereby members set the agenda on the issues we should be fighting for and campaigning on. All members are encouraged to be a part of our collective movement to bring about positive changes.
