Now more than ever, we need to come together, fight and win on pay, pensions and jobs, says PCS General Secretary Mark Serwotka

Since the NEC met last week and took the decision to move to a statutory ballot, I have seen lots of comments questioning the timing, so I thought it might be useful to remind people about the background to the decisions taken.

It was lovely, once again, to be able to chair conference in person. After a three-year absence, we returned to Brighton for several days of lively debate and discussion.

As I write this, plans are underway to find a replacement for Boris Johnson after he resigned, leaving behind him a trail of chaos and a shameful legacy of low pay for key workers and job cuts.
