DWP young members’ seminar
PCS is holding a DWP-specific young members’ seminar in Birmingham on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February.
Our two-day seminar will cover how young members can get involved with PCS, take a lead in organising, running campaigns and building the strength of our union. It will also explore specific issues within DWP, giving those that attend the tools they need to tackle the most pressing issues in their workplaces.
It is open to DWP members who are aged 27 or under on 15 February.
Attendees will hear from members of the DWP group executive committee about the work it does representing members across DWP. You’ll also be able to ask them questions and learn from their experiences.
Other sessions will be delivered by members of the DWP young members’ advisory committee which has organised the event with the support of Jo Pritchard, group young members' officer.
DWP group deputy young member officer and NEC member Saul Cahill said: “I’m really excited about this event. I’m especially looking forward to a session which focuses on the work we do as a group to fight for a fairer and more just social security system.
“It will also give everyone who attends the chance to meet other young members from across the country. I know from personal experience of attending national young members’ seminars that hearing about the incredible work other young members do is always an inspiration for my own activism and I’m thrilled we’re able to bring this to as many young members in DWP as possible.
“Whether you’re a young member looking to take your first steps into PCS activism, a new activist keen to learn how you can get more involved, or a more experienced activist looking to develop your skills, I hope to see you in Birmingham!”
Accommodation will be provided for members who cannot travel to the seminar daily, and travel and subsistence will be paid by PCS. Complete the online form to register your interest. Spaces are limited, and you must register by Friday 31 January.
If you have any questions about the event, please contact the PCS young members’ secretary, Claire Morris by email at Clairem@pcs.org.uk.
