From the editor

Hello there everyone, I hope that this issue of the Voice finds you well as we head into the cold of winter.

This has been a difficult year for many, but as always, members have my unwavering support for the fantastic work that has been done this year. We must continue to support each other through these difficult months ahead, as while we have gained concessions, we have not gained our demands.

As editor, I have heard the harrowing accounts of poverty faced by our members. It is a struggle to keep the heating on, food on plates and roofs over heads. We must stay united and continue to move forward to support our most vulnerable.

We felt it appropriate to hear from the national executive committee (NEC) in this issue and so our first article will be on the next stages of the campaign. I hope that you all had the chance to attend a branch meeting following the pay award to hear how this is being handled. If you have not, it is never too late to get involved in the campaign on pay.

We have curated a selection of articles this quarter to highlight some of the ongoing issues within DWP. We are suffering from rising workloads and less staff. Michelle Greb has written to us on how this is affecting our comrades in RSD. The Women’s Advisory Committee and Black Members’ Committee have also written a great piece about the race inequalities faced in maternity and pregnancy. We round off this edition with a post-strike report from a Glasgow Jobcentre and how that has affected the union movement in the office.

Thank you,
Sam.
