Heathrow dispute – strike action called
Hundreds of PCS members working at Heathrow airport will strike for 4 days from 29 April in response to the Home Office imposing a new roster that would see around 250 members forced out of their role on passport control.
The 4-day strike will be followed by a work to rule up to 18 May.
Following PCS suspension of planned strike action last week, the Home Office has agreed to further talks. These talks begin this week. However, we have served a new notice of strike action so that if those talks do not bring a satisfactory resolution to our current dispute, we are in a position to take industrial action.
Members have expressed heartbreak at being forced out of the job that they have undertaken in Border Force for years. Others have said the new roster, due to be imposed by the Home Office on 29 April, is ‘unworkable’.
PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Our members are angry and disappointed at being forced out of their jobs. While not everyone will be affected, the changes will disproportionately hit those who are disabled or have caring responsibilities.
“The Home Office should be doing all it can to retain experienced, trained staff – not lose them by introducing an unworkable new roster system.”
