Land Registry strike ballot begins
Members are being balloted for strike action over three key areas including a return to offices, use of personal data and unpaid extra responsibilities.
A ballot for strike action and action short of a strike opened yesterday (28) for all PCS members working for the Land Registry.
Land Registry staff are being ordered to return to working in their offices for three days a week. Members are very angry about this arbitrary demand from their employer and are demanding more flexibility.
The 3,800 workers based in 14 offices* across England and Wales are also concerned about the employer inappropriately using personal data and having to accept extra responsibilities without extra pay.
PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote said: “Another government department has set another arbitrary attendance target without providing any evidence or reason for the decision. Flexible working helps people be more productive and allows them to fulfil caring responsibilities
“As someone once said, ‘we’re not in the 1970s’ – we’re in the 2020s and working practices have evolved for the better. It’s time the government caught up with the rest of the world and realised forcing people back into the office does no-one any favours
"A responsible, progressive employer would trust their staff to work from home if they choose.”
Ballot papers must be returned by post to arrive not later than 23 December.
If you work for Land Registry and aren't a PCS member, join PCS by noon on Wednesday 4 December to get a vote.
Replacement ballot papers
If you need a replacement ballot paper you must request it online by logging into PCS Digital where you can check and update their details if necessary. You can request a replacement from noon on Wednesday 4 December and the deadline for requesting a replacement is noon on Friday 6 December.
