OCS members in East Kilbride to take strike action
The members employed as caterers and cleaners at FCDO will walk out for two days this month.
PCS members employed as cleaners and caterers at the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office in East Kilbride will take two days of strike action on 18 and 19 September in an escalation of their dispute over pay, terms and conditions.
The strike action follows a resounding 100% vote in favour on a 100% turnout in a ballot that closed on 30 August.
Outsourcing giant OCS have failed to make a reasonable pay offer, only offering the payment of the real living wage, which is a contractual requirement. They have continued to refuse to make improvements to terms and conditions, including an increase to annual leave and the introduction of company sick pay for those who currently have no entitlement to contractual sick pay.
PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote, said: “Our members continue to deliver key services to the FCDO but OCS’s continued refusal to recognise the challenges they face due to the company’s attempted driving down of pay, terms and conditions is completely unacceptable.
“This strike action is avoidable if OCS acts reasonably to table an offer reflecting the significant improvements to pay, terms and conditions that our members deserve.
“We continue to demand that the contract is insourced."
The striking members will hold picket lines outside the FCDO site at Abercrombie House, Eaglesham Road, East Kilbride G75 8EA on 18 September (7:30-11 a.m.) and 19 September (7:30-10a.m.).
