PCS members strongly reject G4S DWP pay offer
In the consultative ballot, members have also said they are prepared to take further strike action.
In an online, consultative ballot that closed on Friday (27) members working for G4S on the DWP contract have voted as follows
- Do you reject the pay offer made by G4S? Yes 83.6% No 16.4%
- Are you prepared to take further strike action in support of better pay? Yes 88.7% No 11.3%
The G4S offer to most members of £11.76 per hour is just 32p above the National Living Wage. This means that on 1 April next year G4S will be forced, yet again, to raise the pay of these workers to meet the minimum legal pay requirement which is expected to be £12.10 per hour.
G4S members working in Jobcentres and other DWP offices put their bodies on the line to keep staff and the public safe every day. Members have made it clear that they will not accept poverty pay for carrying out a high-risk job and are prepared to take further strike action in support of an improved pay offer.
PCS will be writing to G4S to inform them of the ballot result and to give further dates for strike action.
Angela Grant, DWP group president said “It’s high time G4S did the decent thing and offered this group of scandalously low paid workers a wage they can live on. They should cough up from the huge sums of money they make from the contributions of taxpayers. The government and the DWP need to act now and bring this work in house to stop these profiteers pocketing our money.”
