Register for the PCS Green Forum on 5th February, 12-3pm
The forum is for green reps, or other reps and members interested in getting involved in the union's green agenda. Whether building our bargaining agenda on workplace sustainability initiatives, or supporting wider campaigns for a just transition to a zero-carbon economy.
As we move on from COP26, the forum will look at the net zero plans of government departments, public bodies and private sector employers of PCS members, and how we can organise to bargain for real sustainable workplaces, and advocate for 'climate jobs' through a National Climate Service to achieve these ends.
John Moloney, PCS Assistant General Secretary will address the forum. He will be joined on a panel by Suzanne Jeffery, chair of the Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union group speaking in the new climate jobs reports, and former PCS member Cee MacDonald on their experience of taking civil disobedience while working in the civil service.
There will then be an opportunity to discuss how we organise together for climate justice in 2022 in 3 breakout groups which will cover:
- Climate strikes and movement building
How can we maintain the momentum after COP26? What next for the COP26 Coalition and the youth climate strikes? What is the state of green organising in the wider trade union movement?
- Pay, pensions, and climate justice
What common demands unite green struggles across PCS employers? Where is the common ground from which we can use our collective power to win green campaigns?
- Zero emissions workplaces
How can we organise to bargain for real sustainable workplaces? How can we unite with health and safety reps? How can we learn from each other to win greener facilities?
