Strike ballot opens for ISS members at the DESNZ
The facilities management workers at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in Whitehall are in dispute over pay, terms and conditions.
The 57 members being balloted for strike action are employed by outsourcing company ISS in facilities management roles such as security guards and cleaners at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
Previous negotiations and campaigning work, including the threat of strike action earlier in the year, have brought improvements to the ISS members’ pay, terms and conditions, however we have been unable to reach an agreement with the employer on our current demands which include:
- a pay increase of at least 7%
- improved health and safety
- contractual redundancy entitlements of 1 month salary for every year of service rising to 21 months.
The ballot for strike action opens today and closes on 6 January 2025. Members are urged to vote YES .
If members vote yes for strike action it will see them joining other facilities management staff who are already on strike in their own disputes with ISS, OCS and G4S across central London and in East Kilbride.
A PCS official said: “There's still time to make progress and prevent escalation. For this, though, there needs to be leadership. Ministers cannot continue to let these companies drag their departments into this mess. There needs to be a solution. Members need to vote ‘yes’. If they do, and we have to take action, we won’t hesitate to do so.”
