Support International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
Stonewall reports that in the UK transphobic hate crimes have quadrupled in the last five years, with 4 out of 5 trans people experiencing a transphobic hate crime, and 1 in 4 experiencing physical assault or the threat of physical assault. Some UK media outlets frequently carry articles by anti-trans hate groups that are active in seeking to undermine trans people’s rights.
The number of homophobic attacks is also increasing, with data suggesting that these have risen by 22% in London in the space of one year.
The TUC says that LGBT+ workers have experienced harassment and unwanted behaviours which are offensive, intimidatory or humiliating. TUC research found that nearly two in five (39%) LGBT+ workers have been harassed or discriminated against by a colleague and a similar proportion (42%) had heard colleagues make unwelcome comments or ask unwelcome questions about their sex life. These behaviours are not acceptable at work, or anywhere else.
