PCS warns minister of catastrophic impact of Universal Credit cut

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that the standard allowance of Universal Credit would be temporarily increased by £20 a week.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka highlighted that we have been contacted by members from DWP who have shared their fears regarding the £20 cut. The feedback we have received has been both overwhelming and alarming. Many have said they have relied on the uplift to make ends meet and they will now struggle to heat their homes and feed their families.

PCS to ballot DVLA members over further strike action

Covid cases among DVLA staff have risen rapidly and with DVLA planning to increase numbers on site, our members continue to be at risk.

PCS has notified the DVLA that we will be balloting our members for strike action over the ongoing health and safety dispute.

The ballot will run from Tuesday 12 October to Wednesday 10 November and members will be asked whether they will be prepared to take part in strike action and action short of a strike in order to win the dispute that has been ongoing since February this year.
