The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has won a landmark ruling in its dispute with the government over changes made to pensions in 2015.
PCS congratulates the FBU on a magnificent victory at the Court of Appeal in a judgement handed down in December over the transitional arrangements for firefighters when pension changes were introduced in 2015. The consequences of the ruling may not become clear for some time as the government has sought leave to appeal.
Civil Service Pension news
In the coming weeks PCS will be involved in talks over issues arising from the 2018 valuation of the Civil Service Pension Scheme. This valuation confirmed that the unions were right during 2011 to resist the panic and exaggeration of future liabilities in the cost of public sector pensions.
The government’s cynical response to the valuations has simply been to change a key component of the valuation to produce yet higher liabilities and pressure for compensatory spending cuts.
