PCS general election strategy consultation – have your say

14 Jun 2019

Our online consultation on the PCS general election strategy is now live and we want members, branches, groups, regional and national committees, sector associations and equalities committees, to have their say.

PCS national conference last year decided that we must develop an effective political strategy for the next general election that involves advancing our industrial agenda through national union support for a Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour government.

Conference decided that a consultation should be held throughout the union “on the means by which we can increase our support for a campaign to get a Corbyn and McDonnell-led UK Labour government elected”.

Our approach to political campaigning is aimed at finding ways to win better:

  • pay
  • jobs
  • pensions
  • public services.

The consultation was launched at our annual delegate conference in Brighton last month, when delegates were given copies of the consultation booklet, and discussions with branches, groups, regions, nation committees, sector associations and equalities committees will take place until the consultation closes in November.

A report of the consultation will be produced for branch annual general meetings in 2020 so that decisions on national policy can be taken at next year’s ADC.

Respond to this consultation by answering the 9 questions set out on the online form.

Timetable

  • Consultation between June and 15 November 2019.
  • Report to PCS national executive committee in December on the outcomes of the consultation.
  • New updated paper produced for discussion at AGMs in 2020.
  • Motion for debate to ADC 2020.
