PCS What's On: 7 - 13 September

PCS' education programme springs back into action with courses scheduled across all regions and nations, covering subjects that will interest all PCS members and representatives, such as 'The Future of the Union', menopause, developing new advocates and much more.

Our Tate members are also continuing their strike against 313 compulsory redundancies, the DWP consultative ballot is ending at noon on Monday and we need all members and supporters to sign and share our petition for fair pay for UK government which has now passed 50,000 signatures.

England literacy event and competition Launch - North West

Tuesday 8 September: 10.20am - 4pm

A Microsoft Teams event for members looking at different aspects of literacy including the launch of the English literacy competition.


Future of the union meeting - Eastern

Tuesday 8 September: 6pm

This meeting is to discuss the long-term strategy for the future of the union and is open to all PCS reps and advocates in the region. PCS general secretary, Mark Serwotka, will give an update from the NEC.


Menopause awareness - Wales

Tuesday 8 September: 10-11.30am

This workshop will help you; understand the impact of the menopause and potentially reduce menopause related issues, maintain productivity, retain talent, understand and and increase loyalty, understand how to help women of menopause age, and how to keep on the right side of UK employment law.


Mentoring New Reps - Scotland

Vital to building a strong union branch is ensuring others will carry on your good work. This session explores succession planning; identify keen new reps and advocates; support their development as trade unionists; and ensure the health of the union for many years to come.


PCS black members' meeting - South West

Tuesday 8 September: 6:30-8pm

We are welcoming Mohammed Shafiq, chair of the national PCS black members committee to discuss how the union is responding to the adverse impact Covid-19 has had on black workers and tackling racism in the workplace.


Workplace reps' course - Northern

This course is aimed at newly-appointed reps and union advocates. It will give you the skills and knowledge to effectively represent your members, covering organising, campaigning, negotiating, equality, and more.

Wednesday 9 September: 5-6.30pm

This is a course for new advocates who have recently completed the Introductory course. It will be an interactive online session exploring how we can best talk to members and non-members about the union and taking our campaign issues forward.


Developing new advocates - a course for PCS reps - South West

Thursday 10 September: 12-1.30pm

PCS is seeing a growth in the number of members wanting to become active in the union. This session is aimed at existing PCS reps and explores succession planning; identifying keen new reps and advocates; supporting their development as trade unionists; and ensuring the health of the union for many years to come.

Art club: watercolour - North West

Friday 11 September: 4.30-5.30pm

Building on our basic introduction to illustration course The Art Club is lead by Mark Rowe from unionlearn and aims to cover topics of interest to those attending. You are welcome whether you have lots of experience or none. We want sessions to be as interactive as possible with attendees sharing experiences and techniques and having a go at producing some art between sessions.
