PCS reps can read the Law at Work book on PCS Knowledge. Written and produced by the Labour Research Department (LRD), the book clearly explains the key areas of employment law.

The revised and updated edition of Law at Work, including the latest case law examples, is available to PCS union reps online at PCS Knowledge in PCS Digital. (https://pcsunion.force.com/pcsdigital)

If you haven’t already you should sign up for PCS Digital. (https://pcsunion.force.com/pcsdigital) It only takes a few minutes.

Hundreds of agency workers become DWP staff following PCS campaign (https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/hundreds-agency-workers-become-dwp-staff-following-pcs-campaign)

A PCS campaign has resulted in 97% of staff employed as agency workers by Brook Street in the Department for Work and Pensions becoming directly employed by the DWP.

Following the DWP’s offer to the staff previously employed by Brook Street we are very pleased to confirm the excellent news that of the 1808 staff on Brook Street contracts, 97% are now employed by DWP.

Our DWP group executive will continue campaigning activity on behalf of fixed-term appointment members while continuing to press DWP to do the right thing and make FTA staff permanent.

Protest in the Park - Royal Parks cleaners' strike (https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/reminder-vote-ocs-pay-ballot)

Royal Parks cleaners working for Just Ask Services marked the end of their second week of strike action with a Protest in the Park.

The cleaners have kept parks open and safe during the pandemic, providing a much-needed public space for everyone during a difficult and isolating period. The same rights as in-house colleagues is the bare minimum these workers should be able to expect from their employer.

The next stages of the campaign are being discussed. In the meantime, please give what you can via the Crowdfunder (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/end-discrimination-at-the-royal-parks).

PCS to ballot DVSA members for strike action over new 8-test schedule (https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/pcs-ballot-dvsa-members-strike-action-over-new-8-test-schedule)

PCS has served notice on the DVSA of the intention to ballot driving examiner and driving test centre manager members for industrial action on the issue of the 8-test schedule. (https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/pcs-dispute-dvsa-over-plans-additional-daily-driving-test)

Racism and intolerance: Changing Attitudes in the Workplace (https://pcsunion.force.com/pcsdigital/s/login/?language=en_US)Northern, Yorkshire and Humberside regions

7 September: 9am-3pm

There has been a disturbing resurgence – often under the false guise of ‘free speech’ – of overt racism, homophobia, misogyny and other hate. And sadly, some workplaces are not free from the trend of scapegoating the most vulnerable in society. Trade Unions have a central role to play in defending our communities, and in campaigning for fairness and equality. This one day workshop utilises materials developed by the TUC, and anti-racism organisations to; help build your confidence in challenging far-right ideas; help you tackle difficult conversations; and give you practical campaigning tips.

Neurodiversity in the Workplace stage 1 (https://pcsunion.force.com/pcsdigital/s/login/) - All regions

8 - 9 September: 9:30am-4:30pm

Some people are autistic, dyslexic, dyspraxic, ADHD, or another atypical condition. PCS fights for all members - especially those who face disadvantage and discrimination in the workplace, and in wider society. Opportunities need to be widened and support strengthened, not cut back under the excuse of 'austerity'.
Sign up for out two day course and become a PCS Neurodiversity Champion.

Safe Return To Workplaces: An Introduction to Health & Safety (https://pcsunion.force.com/pcsdigital/s/login/?language=en_US) - All regions

9 - 10 September: 9am-12pm

How can ensure that employers are providing a safe working environment as we return to workplaces after a phase of Covid lockdown, furlough, or working from home arrangements?
Many workplaces may have a level of union organisation, but may not have a PCS Health & Safety Rep. What can we do quickly to become aware of legislation that protects workers, and how to assert our rights as union members?
This short course will get you started, and hopefully give you confidence to go on to further PCS Health & Safety training.
