Thank you for the work that you do
As we come towards the end of a difficult year, adjusting to working in a global pandemic, I would like to thank all PCS members working in facilities management. You continue to keep our workplaces safe and secure by providing the first line of defence against Covid-19. Shamefully, most of your employers fail to recognise the important work you do, and the risks involved by providing the basic respect of an occupational sick pay scheme if you become unwell.
That is why it is fantastic news that our members employed as outsourced cleaners at the Royal Parks have recently won occupational sick pay, amounting to three months full pay. This victory was achieved by high union membership and member participation and is a model of what we can achieve when we act collectively.
Looking ahead to 2022, I encourage you all to participate in your branch annual general meeting (AGM). Every PCS branch will hold an AGM between January and March.
AGMs play an important part in the democracy of our union and are the vehicle by which union members have a say about the direction of our union. At the meeting itself, members receive a report of the work our union has done over the past year, have a say on what issues our union should focus on, and elect their representatives, for the year ahead.
I encourage you all to attend this important meeting in your branch and consider getting more active in PCS by standing to become a rep or an advocate.
