PCS to brief MPs during British Council ballot

PCS will be meeting with MPs on 9 February to brief them about why we are balloting our members in British Council for industrial action.

PCS is currently balloting British Council members (https://www.pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/strike-ballot-opens-british-council) across the globe for industrial action over our demands of no compulsory redundancies, no further privatisation of jobs and a fair, open and transparent approach to negotiations.

To support our industrial campaign, we are also stepping up our political campaigning. We will be holding a briefing for MPs on Wednesday 9 February from 4-5pm.

There has already been considerable support from MPs on this issue. An early day motion (https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/56852/future-of-the-british-council) received widespread backing and a well-attended Westminster Hall debate in September focused on the British Council closures.

What you can do

If you are a PCS member in British Council you can email your MP (https://e-activist.com/page/97873/action/1) to invite them to the parliamentary briefing on 9 February.

If you work for British Council, but are not a member of PCS, you can join PCS online. (https://pcsunion.force.com/onlinejoiningform)

Anyone who wants to support the campaign can do so by emailing the foreign secretary Liz Truss (https://e-activist.com/page/86111/action/1) to urge her to intervene to stop the reckless cuts.
