In September 2016, HMRC introduced its new Attendance Management policy. Although PCS had opposed the introduction of the previous sickness absence policy back in 2011, this new policy was substantively worse in a number of ways, including:
- The replacement of consideration points for informal discussions of concerns with more rigid trigger points for formal action;
- Abandoning the facility to discount disability related sickness in favour of ‘disability trigger points’ which we consider far less suitable as a reasonable adjustment;
- Counting anything more than 14 days as continuous absence and introducing a requirement for a formal meeting every month.
This section provides PCS representatives and members with guidance and updates on management's attendance management system and the PCS campaign for a fairer system.
