The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has published their ‘Strategic Review of DCMS-sponsored museums’.
Yesterday (14 November) the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) published their ‘Strategic Review of DCMS-sponsored museums’.
16 institutions are covered in the review – including;
- British Museum,
- National Portrait Gallery,
- Science Museums,
- Wallace Collection,
- Imperial War Museums,
- Natural History Museum,
- British Library,
- National Gallery,
- Tate Group,
- National Museums Liverpool, and the
- Victoria & Albert museum.
Our Group Executive Committee will be meeting to consider the report – and have already noted one recommendation, the suggestion that any institution that can achieve a minimum of 50% funding through commercial income could consider becoming a ‘public corporation’.
We hope to work with sister-TUC unions on responding and progressing the report and its recommendations as well as engaging with the institutions themselves directly.
In the meantime – if you have any comments/thoughts/feedback – please direct these to your local PCS representative and this will be collated into our substantive response.
