Young members network

Over the last 2-3 years we have been focusing on developing a young members' network in conjunction with the national network which is organised across the 9 PCS regions.

On the back of this, we have established a national young members' committee which is made up of representatives from each of the regional networks and sets the overall direction for the network.

Like many unions in the UK, PCS has an aging membership with the average member 45 years or older. Only 12.2% of working 20-25 year-olds are members of a trade union, which drops to 4.4% for those aged 16-19.

The network was started as a supportive environment to get young members involved in the union.

The south west young members committee is made up of the regional convenors and a number of local young members across government departments.

We meet on a semi regular basis and develop local issue based campaigns and share ideas and experiences and support each others work.
