PCS is committed to a green agenda, both in the workplace and more widely – which you can read about on the ‘Green Workplaces’ pages elsewhere on the union’s website – and is developing a network of green reps to act as workplace champions on these issues. In recent years, PCS conference has carried an increasing number of motions on green issues, and has also contributed to the Campaign Against Climate Change's pamphlet, 'One Million Climate Jobs NOW'. In Wales, we produce a regular newsletter dealing with green issues. We welcome ideas and contributions from branches and individual members on what will become an increasingly important part of our activity.
Environmental groups call for tougher Sustainable Development legislation
A coalition of 20 environmental, social justice and business organisations have launched an alternative plan for the Welsh Government's proposed Sustainable Development Bill, which would incorporate stronger action to achieve sustainable development.
This should be of interest to all green reps in Wales, especially those in the devolved areas. All reps should be seeking to raise the issue with managers and thereby to influence decisions and plans flowing from the bill.
