New Year, new challenges for the National Assembly for Wales branch

20 Feb 2017

The new year has just begun, but 2017 has already brought many changes to the National Assembly for Wales, including changes to staff and accommodation.

Spring will see the organisation welcoming new chief executive Manon Antoniazzi, following Claire Clancy’s retirement. We hope that the trade unions will have the same positive relationship with the new chief executive that we have had with the outgoing one and we will be seeking an early meeting with her.

The ground floor at Ty Hywel currently resembles a building site as refurbishment work goes ahead to build new committee rooms and public waiting areas. As a result there has been some re-shuffling with accommodation. The TUS office has been relocated to A009, a room near the old chamber, and the post office has been relocated to the first floor near the video conferencing room.

There are also several ongoing reviews to security, front of house and accommodation. The security review is due to come to a close at the end of March and the favoured options would see an increase in the managerial staffing levels, a new front office manager and an increase in staffing levels to the existing night teams.

The front of house review is currently ongoing and PCS has met with members following on from draft proposals that have been made that could affect staffing levels and working patterns.

The accommodation review is being held as there continues to be pressure on Ty Hywel space to accommodate additional staff members that have been recruited. There are also issues of dealing with limited storage areas for ICT and education.

The TUS recently engaged in consultation exercises in relation to the official languages scheme and the overtime policy. We have also started on a timetable of joint health and safety inspections that involves the head of service for the work area as well as TUS and HR/EFM.

The branch AGM has been arranged for Friday, 3 March at 12 in Ty Hywel with video conferencing also available for members in Colwyn Bay. All existing BEC members and officers have accepted nominations to stand again but upon writing the nomination process had yet to close.
