Workplace learning (ULR)

The PCS Union Learning Fund (ULF) is financed by government to allow learners access to a wealth of learning workshops, courses and events opportunities throughout the year.

Union Learning Representatives (ULRs), based in the workplace, provide information on learning for workers in the civil service, in other public sector areas and those working for private companies running government contracts.  Learning may be at the workplace, a community space, electronically, at events, formally with tutor, or informally with ULRs and their partners.

In the 2018-19 project our target areas are:

Maths, English and ICT - from initial assessments reviewing skills levels, to working with colleges to offer formal qualifications. 

Supporting apprentices - ensuring that apprentices in the civil service get their entitled 20% ‘off the job’ training and are signposted to different learning opportunities relevant to their apprenticeship.

Dissemination events - showcasing how ULRs support learners, promote Learning at Work Week and other learning initiatives.

Continuing Professional Development - keeping your skills sharp in the workplace to enhance career progression and development. This includes professional and personal development opportunities for learners in professional and management grades.

Equality and diversity events, working closely with the equality department within PCS.  We support the pan-equality regional forums, and work with PCS equality networks to improve access to learning for all.
