Quarterly committee meetings and AGM

The quarterly committee meetings and AGM are open to all PCS ARMs members in Yorkshire and the Humber Region and we encourage you to come along and get involved.  The meetings are friendly and informal and addressed by a guest speaker.  We cannot afford to pay everyone's travel costs but we provide refreshments at lunchtime.

All meetings are held in the PCS regional office in Leeds starting at 11:30am.

Speakers

We have welcomed speakers from:

  • The fast food workers union Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) and their campaign against hostile employers not recognising union membership.
  • The Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign
  • The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
  • The 'Peoples' Assembly'

Educational workshops

We have run educational workshops on:

"The Spirit of 45" around the formation of social care, NHS and the Welfare State.

Europe, the impact on the unions, the state, human rights, economy and neo-liberalism.

Educational days out

We also arrange educational visits suggested by the committee.  Travel costs are at your own expense.  We have visited:

  • Peoples History Museum Manchester
  • Kelham Island Museum Sheffield
  • Hull for the City of Culture 2017

Campaigns - get involved

As part of our campaigning activities we aim to support campaigning events that PCS supports.  We have attended: Save our NHS march, Peoples Assembly End Austerity marches, Save BIS Sheffield - support Sheffield March for Jobs, stop DWP office closures pickets etc.  We have also staffed phone banks at PCS office in Leeds to aid campaigns.  Travel costs can be re-imbursed.

Town Committees

We have no Town Committees set up at present.

If you are interested in getting more involved in PCS ARMs work or wish to raise an item with the committee please contact the secretary via secretary.yorkshire@arms-pcs.org.uk or one of the other committee members whose details are in the contact details section.

Additional ad hoc events - e.g. attending rallies, social or educational events will be emailed out or appear on this Y&H ARMs events page.

 

Notes

(1) Annual General Meetings, Committee meetings start at 11:30, followed by the AGM around 13:00 ending 15:00 at the latest.

(2) Hull City of Culture 2017 visit two - There are two options here:  to visit the TATE's Turner Prize 2017 - Exhibition at Ferens Art Gallery or to visit the Arctic Corsair.  Additionally there may be time to visit the Hull Museums Quarter.  Please email the Secretary if you intend to go and you have any preference.

(2) Hepworth Gallery Visit Wakefield, Tuesday 21 November 2017, 11:00, Hepworth Gallery.  Note there is a free bus from both train stations to and from the gallery.
