The Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977 give legal functions and protections to union safety reps - but only if they have been appointed in accordance with what the law requires.
Regulation 3 says that a union safety rep gains these rights and functions once their employer has been notified, in writing, of their appointment 'by or on behalf of the union'.
To ensure that PCS safety reps are properly appointed, PCS can issue an accreditation card, that is sent to the rep with a letter of appointment to pass on to their employer. All you need to do is complete the appropriate form and send it back to us.
As well as receiving your card, this will also ensure that your details are added to our mailing database for future postal updates.
