ATOS wiped out in bids for PIP and WCA

Atos continue to lose government contracts, explains Atos Durham lead rep John Bottoms.

Atos has failed to win any of the lots for the new PIP and WCA contracts due to run from September 2024 to 2029.

Staff are unclear how many of the lots Atos bid for. Even if it bid for them all it seems unlikely it would have won any. The recurring theme lately is that Atos is not a government favourite or that they do not want to get their fingers burnt on low bid contracts.

Lot 1 went to the current supplier of WCA in the North, Maximus. Lot 2 and lot 5 went to Capita, lot 3 to SERCO and lot 4 to Ingeus.

This means another TUPE for members working on the PIP contract, something which they have been through twice before.

“The hope we all have is that a Labour government would insource it back to the civil service, but maybe that’s just a pipe dream.”

The problem this time is that members are being split up into three different firms. PCS needs to be very wary of this and to ensure all terms and conditions are carried over. Transition will start from February with PCS wanting to be involved from the start. It is important now for reps to pull together all relevant Matrix information and legacy policies, customs and practices. What we don’t know is will it be worse under these new companies? The hope we all have is that a Labour government would insource it back to the civil service, but maybe that’s just a pipe dream.
